Good news and bad news re: ending child marriage

We have good news and some bad news as we continue our relentless advocacy to convince every U.S. state to ban child marriage, a human rights abuse that destroys girls’ lives.

First, the good news:

• Oregon’s senate voted nearly unanimously to end child marriage. The bill now heads to the house.
• Missouri’s senate also voted nearly unanimously to end child marriage, and the bill there also now heads to the house.
• Hawaii’s house passed a bill to end child marriage, so now the senate needs to act.

The bad news:

• South Dakota senators voted NO on making the marriage age 18, no exceptions. (Pause to bang head against wall.)
